The teaching of Languages nowadays is in high demand, due to open borders, particularly in Europe and the free circulation of people.
At MIT School, we give priority to the teaching of English, complemented by Mandarin (from 7 yrs old), French (from 9 yrs old) and German (from 12 yrs old), establishing more than half of the curriculum in English in a gradual and prudent manner so it does not pose an obstacle for the new pupils who do not have a high English level.
With this in mind, our teachers will attend courses to improve their level of English in exchange programs with teachers of other schools around the world.
From Reception, pupils will be taught to recognise and develop grammatical structures through conversation practise. It is easier to understand when we see what is happening, and because of this, videos will be used to improve understanding. The process is that the student is first introduced to a given context, and then he will perceive visually what happens, he will listen and recognize the sound of what is said, he will link the visual signs with the hearing and finally he will begin to repeat them.
The second phase of the bilingualism process is centred in reading and writing that begins in Reception. Our biggest aspiration is not only that our pupils handle a perfect English but also that they could read foreign bibliography re-discovering original thoughts, in preparation for the demands of the new millennium.
"Workshops" will be carried out every Monday, by our English teachers and they will prepare topics related to the “Science Fair “
Our plans will focus on combining language projects with different subjects: Science, Maths, Language, History, Geography, General Knowledge, etc.
The examinations that are promoted in our project are those of Trinity College of London, those of the University of Cambridge and those required to join American and Canadian universities: YLE, KET, PET, FCE, FALLS DOWN, CPS, TOEFL, TOEIC, ECCE.
-
Mastery of Spanish and English as second language from 3 years old onwards, Mandarin as third language from 6, French from 9, German as third language starting from 9 years (4th Primary). This is a fundamental part of our project because our pupils will need this advantage of languages to face future professional challenges; it also introduces them to other cultures and languages for their own personal development as people.
-
We will become examining Centres of Trinity College London with the possibility of obtaining the international grades that this Institution offers, and that are recognized internationally as level certification of communicative command in English language.
-
Recently, the University of Cambridge has started its international examinations for school levels (Young Learners), and MIT School has been chosen to collaborate as the examining Centre in the Southern Spain.
-
By the same route, our pupils, from the final levels of the Primary education, have the opportunity to obtain the international certifications of Alliance Française, and Deutsche Einsatz Amt.
We pledge as well for a bilingual Secondary Education, by using English as a learning tool in the Primary education courses, by introducing a third language in the last levels of this stage, and because our pupils can increase their curriculum with International certificates (PET for 6th of Primary and First Certificate for Bachillerato).
